Other Community Projects
Community Care Cans
We collect non-food staples, such as diapers, paper towels and personal care items, in brightly decorated cans at key retail locations around town. The items collected are then made available to persons in need by the
Joyce Sobel Family Resources Center.
We provide regular financial support and volunteers to advance Family Resource Center (FRC) programs. The FRC is named after Joyce Sobel, who was one of the founders of the center and a proud Soroptimist.
Thanksgiving Baskets
We deliver an entire holiday meal to island families.
Christmas Elves
We assist holiday elves by gifting families experiencing financial hardship.
Knowledge Bowl
We join the community in raising funds by sending a team of our members to participate in this annual Friday Harbor High School fundraiser.
Women's Seminars
We provide classes for women in the community about useful topics such as financial record keeping and taxes, or gardening and healthy meals.
Notable Women's Lunches
We host a luncheon each spring, to honor our award winners and other community women who make a difference to local women and girls.
Dream It, Be It
We participate in the Soroptimist International of the Americas’ premier program for high school girls. These sessions encourage girls to develop life and career goals for themselves, in a supportive environment.
