Soroptimist International is a worldwide volunteer service organization for women and men in management and professions to advance human rights and the status of women and girls. Over 120,000 local clubs power a global movementactive at local, national and international levels. Soroptimist, means “best for women,” and that’s what we strive to achieve.  Soroptimists are committed volunteers working to help women to be their best.  The mission statement is ‘Improving the lives of women and girls, in the local communities and throughout the world.’

Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor members share their time, talents and financial resources to enrich the San Juan Island community through service projects that support women, girls and families. We acknowledge island women and girls who work to make a difference with the Violet Richardson Award and the Making A Difference Ruby Award.  Our Live Your Dream campaign provides the Women’s Opportunity Award to a woman who is improving the life of herself and her family.  To learn more click on the Awards and Scholarships page to the left.

Our club contributes to national and international projects supporting women as well.

Together, we will:
• Improve the lives of women and girls
• Help women achieve economic and political equality
• Serve as a global voice for women
• Provide outstanding leadership development opportunities for women
• Enhance world peace and understanding
