Communications Policy adopted February, 2011 and shared in the March/April 2011 newsletter.
Communications in SIFRI
The goal of this document is to provide newer members with information and procedures about communication within our club, and fill in the gaps for more seasoned members.
How do I learn whatʼs going on?
• Newsletter – published monthly on our website (www.sifri.org); a link to the newsletter is emailed to all members when a new issue is posted
• Emails – sent as needed by the Membership Treasurer
• Mentors – a great source of information for new members
• Announcements at meetings about SIFRI events, conferences, and membersʼ community participation
• Websites for SIFRI, the NW Region, SIA and SI International – Our club website, www.sifri.org, is filled with interesting information and pictures, and contains both our club photo roster and our calendar of events. It also contains links to the websites from the larger Soroptimist organization. Check all these websites out — thereʼs a lot going on!
I have a great idea for a new SIFRI project. How do I get it going?
Take your idea to the most appropriate service area coordinator.
If the service area oordinator agrees that the idea has merit and should be explored further, she (or you) will present it to the board.
If the board approves the idea, it will be presented to the membership.
The project will then be added to the club’s list of activities, and members will be given the opportunity to sign up as project leader or project team members.
How do I make suggestions or express a concern?
If itʼs project-related, contact the appropriate project leader first.
Otherwise, contact one of the Directors on the board (their role is to serve as liaisons to the board).
Choose the appropriate means for contact. Sensitive issues should be handled in person or by telephone, rather than by email.
Can I send an email to all of our members?
Only Soroptimist-related emails are forwarded to the entire membership via the Membership Treasurer or club President. Send your SIFRI-related emails to the Membership Treasurer. She will then send it to our members on your behalf.
Group emails are sent as blind copy so that your email is protected. SIFRI does not lend or sell our email list, nor allow its use for non-SIFRI business purposes.
How do I let the members know about a non-Soroptimist event or share information that I think would be of general interest to the membership?
The clubʼs newsletter contains a bulletin board (“Community News of Note”) that can be used for this purpose. Send your announcement to the Newsletter Editor.
Announcements at meetings need to be concise. Plan ahead what you want to say and be prepared to use the microphone.
Topics that are particularly sensitive or controversial are not appropriate. Our club supports member participation in other community activities and organizations, which may include running for an elected office, but we do not endorse a particular person or stance on an issue.
