Club Service Areas

Our Service Areas

Twice each year we sign up to participate in (or to lead!) project teams that plan and implement all of our club activities.  Our current service areas are:

Healthy People, Healthy Planet—Projects in this area focus on issues that pertain to physical and mental health, as well as the protection of our environment. Some examples are the club’s cancer treatment transportation project, bi-monthly litter pick-ups at Jackson’s Beach, and an annual Earth Day project.

Best for Women—The club gives awards each year to women and girls who are making a difference in the com-munity or continuing their education. Project teams solicit applications and oversee the selection process. In addition, teams make the arrangements for the Grant of Friendship visitors from overseas, and plan the annual Notable Women’s Luncheon.

Fund-raising—Project teams co-ordinate each of the club’s fund-raising events and activities, such as staffing the entry gates at the County Fair, planning and running the annual St. Patrick’s Day Extravaganza, and managing the sale of coffee for our Café Femenino project.

Public Relations—These project teams keep the larger community aware of our local club and its activities/events, primarily through news articles and photographs in the various island publications. Teams also oversee our website and publish our monthly newsletter.

Membership—Both recruiting new members and keeping the ones we have are important to our club. Project teams in this service area focus on providing specific activities that attract and retain members, for example, the mentor program and orientation events for new members.

Community Projects—The club participates in a long list of activities that are sponsored by other organizations on the island, such as the Relay for Life, the community Thanksgiving dinner, the Knowledge Bowl, and the parade on July 4th. Each of these requires some planning and organization by project teams.
